Aukje Koks is a Dutch painter. Her paintings go into dialogue with the surrounding works. The forms Koks paintings and three-dimensional works take often come from her own life and studio.
She considers the studio a source of inspiration apart from it being a working space for her. She is very much interested in human psychology. Her work is very personal as she is inspired by the things and people closest to her. She does not usually label the things seen in the work and in that way the work is distant, intimate but one does not know what it points at. She views her work as a long-term research. The Surrealist manifesto inspires her but not all the Surrealist artists. Also, she is inspired by artists whose works have a strong poetic content. She is fascinated by books because it contains time.
